Rwanda national football team position remained unchanged at the 85th place in the latest football FIFA rankings released on Thursday in Zurich, Switzerland.

The country’s fortune may make a significant leap in the next ranking for the month of March, should Johnny McKinstry’s team excel in the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2017 double header against Mauritius.

According to the latest ranking, Rwanda’s opponents in the group, Ghana also remained static in the 41st position and fourth on the continent.

Mauritius is ranked at 172nd and Mozambique, who are last in the group, at 100th. Neighbours Uganda remain the best team in the East African region despite dropping four places from 71st to 75th.

Kenya is 103rd; Sudan has improved five places, jumping to 84th from 89th. After being crowned CHAN 2016 champions in Kigali last month, DR Congo have dropped one place to 58th.

Surprising Cape Verde tops in Africa, followed by Ivory Coast and Algeria respectively. Belgium, Argentina, Spain and Germany held on to the top four positions globally.
