Amagaju FC are upbeat and optimistic about getting a positive result when they come up against reigning champions APR on Thursday afternoon at Kigali Regional Stadium, kick off at 3:30pm.

APR, who are fresh from a stunning performance that saw them thump Mbabane Swallows of Swaziland 4-1 in CAF Champions League second leg on Saturday, will be looking for yet another outstanding display on the local front.

The military side advanced to the second round of Africa’s biggest club competition after seeing off Mbabane Swallows on a 4-2 aggregate score. APR lost the first-leg 1-0 in Swaziland, but a hat-trick by centre back Abdul Rwatubyaye and a goal from midfielder Patrick Sibomana turned the tide in favour of APR.

Amagaju will be looking to become the second side to upset the record 15-time champions this season after Mukura beat them 2-0 last October.

Amagaju beat Rwamagana 2-0 on Tuesday and are looking forward to another impressive play, according to head coach Abdu ‘Bekeni’ Bizimana.

He said, "We are looking forward to the game, it’s hard to predict but APR are favourites and the fact that they are the host team, it will be even harder for us.”

"However, after our away win in Rwamaganaon Tuesday, the players are confident, and the mood in the team is wonderful, we want to build on that with a positive result on Thursday(today),” the former Etincelles coach told Times Sport on Wednesday.

APR start the day in fourth position with 24 points, eight points behind leaders Mukura Victory Sports, who were scheduled to play Bugesera FC yesterday. However, the army side have played three games less.

Should Emmanuel Rubona’s APR win today, they will climb to third position, above Rayon Sports (25 points) and one point behind second-placed AS Kigali.

Amagaju are in eighth place with 17 points from 12 matches.
