From competing at the just concluded African Continental Road Championship in Casablanca, Morocco, Team Rwanda Cycling has arrived in Algiers ahead of the upcoming Grand Tour of Algeria.
This year’s edition of Grand Cycling Tour of Algeria, a series of races that cover different parts of the vast North African country, is scheduled to start on March 4 and will run through to March 28. The team touched base in Algiers on Sunday afternoon and held their first training on Monday to acclimatize the weather and going through the race routes.
The country will be represented by six riders, including youngster Samuel Mugisha, who will be competing in his second international competition in the senior team after his debut at Continental Championship in Morocco where Rwanda won one gold and two silver medals.
Other riders in Algeria include; Patrick Byukusenge (capain), Joseph Areruya, Joseph Biziyaremye, Jeremie Karegeya and Jean Claude Uwizeye, who won a silver medal in U23 category of the Men’s Elite road race in Morocco.
Team Rwanda will be coached by Simon Hupperetz, Jamie Bissell (mechanic) and physiotherapist Obed Ruvogera.
