The Army Jazz band lead singer Sgt. Robert Kabera declared his life’s turning point of becoming a born-again Christian.

"I got saved on December 25, 2005, at Zion Temple Church. I backslid because of many reasons, but I have made my second move towards my Creator seriously,” Sgt. Kabera revealed in an interview.

Sources close to Sgt Kabera told The New Times that he attends Umucyo Church at Remera, along the highway from Hotel Chez Lando to Kigali International Airport.

The source added that Sgt. Kabera has been singing gospel songs in the same church for about three weeks now.

Sgt Kabera said it was the church’s pastor who convinced him to sing. Kabera and his fiancée, a church member of Umucyo church, are undergoing pre-marital counseling sessions with the pastor.

Kabera is commonly known for his hit singles- ‘Weekend’ and ‘Mageshi nimakli’ imitating Shaggy, the US-based Jamaican singer.

He is one of the hundreds of gospel singers that sing contemporary and classical music produced in the scattered semi-professional studios in Rwanda.
