The Fourth Battalion of Rwanda National Police Special Intervention Force on Thursday completed a one week Field Training Exercise (FTX) that was conducted at the Police Training Centre in Mayange, Bugesera District.

The closing of the FTX was presided over by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Emmanuel K Gasana and graced by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of operations, Dan Munyuza and DIPG in charge of administration and Personnel Juvenal Marizamunda.

The aim of the exercise was to enhance the officers’ skills in public order and events management, crowd control, search and rescue operations, counterterrorism tactics and skills at combined arms and equipment.

Addressing the officers at the end of their exercise, IGP Gasana reminded them of their responsibilities.

"Your job is of high value to Rwandans that is why you have to continuously train, acquire necessary skills and serve with self-determination, honor, dedication, passion and dignity,” he said.

The Police Chief told officers that Rwanda National Police is committed to building a credible and professional skilled force ready to confront contemporary security challenges.

"You should know that discipline is key to all RNP operations – whether you are on duty or off duty you should be defined by high level of discipline and always remember you represent the image of the force,” said the IGP, adding that, going contrary to this is betrayal of the institutional values and the people we serve.

During the event, the trained officers conducted a field exercise demonstration using special equipment combined with skillful use of arms.

The Commandant of the Police Training Centre, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) William Kayitare thanked the trainees for their conduct during the course and pointed out that, RNP will conduct more similar courses with a view to enhancing police officers’ policing capacities.

The Field Training Exercise is one of the series of trainings given to officers to continuously improve their operational readiness and alertness with an aim of effective policing.
