RE: "Relief for working mothers as MPs enact maternity fund law” (The New Times, February 17).

Allow me to express my happiness at hearing of the good news regarding the enactment of the maternity fund law. Rwanda has for long done well in terms of gender equality and women empowerment but that has been a contentious issue that has been for unknown reason has not been implemented.

The issue has been raised in different women advocacy fora, various gender summits and so on.

The enactment of the law will have positive impact on children, mothers, fathers and the Rwandan society in general.This is a relief not only to women but to men as well and to the families at large.

We are grateful to the Government for these policies and laws which enable families to thrive and promote the well-being of the citizens.
