Results for the 2015 senior six national examinations (A-Level) were released this afternoon at the Ministry of Education headquarters in Kacyiru showing a slight improvement in the general performance.
Results for the 2015 senior six national examinations (A-Level) were released this afternoon at the Ministry of Education headquarters in Kacyiru showing a slight improvement in the general performance.
The results were received from the director-general, Rwanda Education Board (REB) Janvier Gasana by the State Minister in charge of primary and secondary education, Olivier Rwamukwaya.
A total of 67,709 students sat for A-Level exams last year and 60,945 (89.2%) of them passed. Out of those who passed, 51.9% are girls while 48.1% are boys.
Among the top performers is Samantha Teta, who has spent her senior six vacation writing with The New Times. According to the results, Teta was second over-all among art students scoring AAAA in four principle subjects.
"I must say I’m really very happy. I wouldn’t have made it without the guidance of my teachers, the school administration, my friends and family,” said a very excited Teta.
Teta pursued HEG (History, Economics and Geography) at NU-Vision High School.
Meanwhile top of the list is Fabrice Intumwayase with Jean-François Régis Mukiza in third place in the arts category.
Fidence Cyizere Rukundo, Mick Ndayishimiye and Stéphanie Ndacyayisenga were first, second and third respectively in Sciences while Donatha Niyonkuru came top in Languages.
Speaking after the release of the results at MINEDUC, Gasana cited a decline in examination malpractices this time around although maintained that some results were withheld until students present their complaints to the education board.
Like last year, REB didn’t rank schools.
S6 results in numbers:
* 68, 359 - Number that registered for 2015 A-Level exams (46,236 registered in 2014)
* 67,709 - Number that sat 2015 A-Level exams (45,957 sat last year)
* 60,945 - Number that passed the 2015 A-Level exams (40,957 passed in 2014)
