EASTERN PROVINCE
BUGESERA—For the second consecutive week, over 2000 acres of beans and maize crops have been submerged after floods hit Gashora and Juru areas in Bugesera.
According to district information, about 2500 families were affected, mostly in Juru sector. Torrential rains have hit the northern part of the country, causing the Nyabarongo River to flood.
Officials from the Prime Minister’s office have visited the area to assess the damage. The farmers remain at risk of losing the crops even if water levels recede.
Mayor Gaspard Musonera has said plans are underway to provide farmers with seeds to plant new crops uphill from the devastation.
