Rwandan artistes are under criticism from their Burundian counterparts over refusal to collaborate on songs.

According to Patient Matabaro, the winner of PRIMUSIC 2013, (Burundi’s version of Primus GumaGuma Super Star), on several occasions, he has tried to talk to Rwandan musicians about collaborations, but has been turned down.

"Working with Rwandan artistes is very difficult. Burundian artistes collaborate with everyone, but I have noticed that Rwanda has talented musicians but when it comes to collaborating on songs, they are not forthcoming,” he said.

He mentioned a few musicians he has approached but has been turned down. He further added that getting to collaborate with a Burundian artiste is very easy.

"Collaborating with a Burundian artiste is easy, all you have to do is ask someone if you can collaborate with them and that’s it. But in Rwanda, musicians are not easily convinced to collaborate with anyone and to make it worse; it’s even difficult to collaborate among themselves. This is not good for music,” he added.

Last year, Burundian artiste Big Fizzo also complained about the local musicians. Music band ‘Peace and Love’ from Burundi have also come out to express their disappointment after they were turned down by Knowless who claimed that she had many songs on the market, and couldn’t record another song with them.
