Once upon a time, there lived a five-year-old boy called Nkubito. He was the only child of his parents until his mother delivered a baby girl called Mutesi.

Mutesi was very sweet and looked like her big brother Nkubito. However, the moment Nkubito set his eyes on Mutesi he put on a sad face.

His Daddy and Mummy asked him why he was unhappy. He said that it was because Mutesi was going to be loved more than him. Every passing day Nkubito closed his ears whenever baby Mutesi cried. In fact he did not even want to look at her.

As a concerned parent, Nkubito’s mother encouraged him to love his sister and be grateful to God that finally he can play with someone at home. But he did not listen.

Then one day Nkubito thought of a wicked idea. He decided to tip-toe to Mutesi’s room so that he can squeeze her cheeks hard because she always cried and made so much noise for him.

He walked slowly towards the baby cot. The moment he put his hands through the mosquito net, Mutesi smiled from ear to ear.

Nkubito felt sorry for his baby sister and he did not squeeze Mutesi’s cheeks.

He instead stretched out his hands and carried baby Mutesi for the first time. She smiled again and again and again. Nkubito loved her sweet smile and never stopped loving his baby sister.

When his mother asked about the sudden change, Nkubito just said: "Mummy, I thank God for my beautiful baby sister.”

The big lesson

Children should know that babies are very innocent. Always show them so much love and care. Thank God for babies and when they are born, help them to get used to our world since all of us were once babies.
