With just a few days to Valentine’s Day, some women might be wondering what to wear in case there are plans to celebrate the day.
It is safe to say that there will be a lot of red and black (colours that symbolise the day), however, according to local designers, one should not be limited to red and black only. There are many colours to play around with.
"One should not overdo it with red. It’s Valentine’s Day, so, a lot of red might end up looking awkward. Try and play around with colour,” says Joy Uwimana, owner of Joy Boutique in Kigali City Market.
Uwimana adds that a little black dress works well if accessorised with a purse, earrings or heels, and just a touch of red.
She adds, "When choosing what to wear, since red is the colour of love, just add a touch of it to the outfit to symbolise that love. Also, consider your skin tone, some colours are picky.”
For John Bunyeshuli, the CEO of Kigali Fashion Week; one should wear what is comfortable for them.
"You should not be tied to only one colour, go for something that you and your spouse will find dramatic and sexy,” he says.
"When it comes to Valentine’s Day, women should be more adventurous and try out new things. Pink is a good choice, if you don’t want too much red, you can don a black or grey skirt, not too long, and a top with hints of pink. Finish the look by accessorising it with a red watch or shoes,” advises Joseph Nsengimana, a clothing vendor in Rubangura building in town.
