Amavubi striker Ernest Sugira has been named among the best 21 players of the just concluded Orange Africa Nations Championship (CHAN).

The three week-tournament concluded on Sunday at Amahoro national stadium with DR Congo’s Les Leopard thrashing Mali 3-0 at the final to claim their second title after the 2009 maiden edition title in Cote d’Ivoire.

The AS Kigali striker Sugira is the only Rwandan player to make it to the tournament’s team composed of 21 players with Champions DR Congo having the majority of the players 6, finalists Mali with 4 players, Cote D’Ivoire 4, Guinea 3, while Tunisia, Nigeria and Zambia have one player each.

Sugira finished the tournament with three goals including a brace against Gabon in group A second tie, and the lone goal during a 2-1 defeat to Champions DR Congo in the quarter finals that saw hosts Rwanda crash out of the tournament.

Meanwhile DR Congo’s Mechack Elia won the Best Player and Top Scorer award with 4 goals, and two assists accolades while Goal of the Tournament went to N’Guessan Serge from Côte d’Ivoire who scored a spectacular goal against Cameroon with DR Congo also claiming the Fair Play Trophy.
