Editor,
RE: "AU has a duty not to abandon Burundians” (The New Times, February 4).
Let us get this straight and clearly: South Africa and Tanzania (and no doubt, Angola and a number of other African countries) are opposed to deploying an African force to protect that section of the Burundi population threatened with extermination (openly in recent public statements), unless that force is given permission to deploy by the very government the force would be intended to protect the endangered population from?
Very interesting this! But why aren’t I really surprised? Comme on dit en bon français, l'Afrique est vraiment malade d'elle même!
We don't need non-Africans to do us in; it is one of the few things we are very good at doing ourselves without foreign assistance, even though that is usually provided generously once they see us at "work”.
After all, as Rwandans have always known, "Usenya urwe umutiza umuhoro”.

It hurts me as a Rwandan to see how many of Africa’s so-called leaders are just a bunch of demagogues.
Just check the record of those who are "misleading” and tell me if you can expect any reasonable contribution from them.
They loot their countries, and only blame the West, for every single thing that goes wrong in their countries or even in Africa.
