Rwanda improves six spots in FIFA ranking

Rwanda has climbed up six places in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola ranking released by the world football governing body, FIFA, in Zurich, Switzerland on Thursday.

Rwanda has climbed up six places in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola ranking released by the world football governing body, FIFA, in Zurich, Switzerland on Thursday.

Moving from 91st last month, Rwanda now ranks 85th in the world, and improved one place, from 23rd to 22nd in Africa.

Rwanda was also the country with most (six) international matches played in the last 30 days, including two friendly games, against DR Congo and Cameroon, and four fixtures at the ongoing African National Championship (CHAN) in Rwanda. Rwanda won three, drew one and lost two.

In the CECAFA region, Uganda dropped 8 places but remain top, in 70th place, Kenya come third (99th) after Rwanda, Burundi are in fourth (119th), Ethiopia are 124th, Tanzania 125th, while Sudan ranks 136th in the latest global ranking.

In Africa, despite declining by 9 places, especially because of the defeat against Rwanda in CHAN, Ivory Coast remains top and 28th in the world. Cape Verde are second in Africa, and 33rd globally, while Algeria (36th), Ghana (41st) and Senegal (45th) completes Africa’s top five.

With the current 20 top-ranked teams yet to play in 2016, top ten remained unaltered with Belgium, Argentina, Spain, Germany and Chile occupying the top five positions.
