Renowned Rwandan poet Natacha Muhoza has released another poem, entitled ‘Rwanda’s Future; Rwanda’s Choices (The Hope of a Nation)’.
The poem, uploaded on YouTube on January 30, is already becoming a hit on various social media platforms.
In an interview with The New Times, Muhoza said that the poem was intended to echo the importance of the recent referendum and what it means to Rwandans.
"I wanted to echo the choice of the Rwandan citizens towards the development of the country, and show the world that Rwanda is focused on moving forward,” she said.
The 22-year-old poet added that her latest release was inspired by the recent constitutional referendum and sentiments around it and the 2015 state of the nation address by the President on the choices of the leader.
"As a young Rwandan, talking about the referendum was a message to the youth and other people having questions about Rwanda that we (Rwandans) can make a choice within our constitutional right,” Muhoza said.
The dual language poem (English and Kinyarwanda) was written in December last year after the referendum which saw 98 per cent of the voters approve the amendments of the constitution.
Muhoza said she hopes that the poem will inspire Rwandans and others to think about the choices they make as well as their impact and not sit back while other people make the choices.
"No matter where the tides fall and winds blow, the choice is ours and, in the end, we must lie in the bed we make. Rwanda’s future will only be as good as its choice,” Muhoza said.
"I want to invite people to engage in the conversation. People will understand where Rwanda is coming from and join hands in this choice that we have made,” she said.
