Zambian captain Christopher Katongo has tipped Guinea Conakry to win the 2016 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN).
Katongo saw his side lose 5-4 to Guinea in penalties in the quarter final at Umuganda Stadium and said that the Syli side has all it takes to win the CHAN title.
"They are a very talented young team with good system of play. They simply need to keep calm at the next level,” said Katongo.
The Guinea team is set to face DR Congo in the first semi final of the tournament on Wednesday at the Amahoro Stadium. Coach Florent Ibenge’s team defeated hosts Rwanda 2-1 last Saturday.
Katongo, who skippered the Chipolopolo to the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) victory, said although Zambia failed to progress to the later stages of the tournament, he is happy with the attitude of the young players on the team.
"I think these players have a bright future going forward. I am also very glad that the coach and the technical committee had confidence in me to call me back to the national team after over a year out,” the 33 year old added.
Katongo scored the winning goal against Uganda Cranes that qualified the team for the quarter final stage.
Zambia beat Zimbabwe 1-0 in their opening match and drew goalless with Mali in the last Group D game.
