Amavubi captain Jacques Tuyisenge has said that the 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) hosts Rwanda didn’t deserve to lose against DR Congo in the quarter-final played on Saturday at Amahoro national stadium.

DR Congo took the lead through Roxa Gikanji after just 11 minutes and Amavubi equalised in the 57th when striker Ernest Sugira netted his third goal of the tournament before defender Padou Bompunga broke the hearts of Rwandans with Congo’s winner in the 113th minute.

Tuyisenge, who was on form, but failed to score in four matches, said that lack of a killer instinct in-front of DR Congo’s goal, cost them in the semi-finals of Africa’s second biggest international football tournament.

"We are disappointed with the results because, overall we have been the better team on field, but we have to look forward and plan for the future. We played well but we missed our chances to win the game,” said the 24-year forward, who recently signed for Kenyan Premier League champions, Gor Mahia.

He added that, "We made mistakes in defense which led to conceding a goal, but everyone saw how we responded after falling behind, we were the better side in the second half and extra time. We deserved to go through, but we haven’t.”

"We should have finished off the game early in the second half, we created enough scoring chances to win it, but we failed to score a second goal,” Tuyisenge noted.

Rwanda were playing in the knockout stages of the major senior competition for the first time after beating Ivory Coast and Gabon in the group stage before losing to Morocco in the final group game and subsequently to DR Congo.
