It was a great disappointment to see our national team, Amavubi (Wasps) exit the African Nations Championship (CHAN) organized on its own soil.

Despite the organizers having hiked ticket prices before the Rwanda – DR Congo match, and giving lame "security” excuses for the hike, the venue was packed.

But doubling prices on the eve of the match because of "high demand”, "to ease crowd pressure” of the huge turnout, is the worst ill-advised decision of the tournament.

The stadium has a known number of seats so it would not over flow because of cheaper tickets. And if they wanted to limit access, would they have been happier if the match was played before empty seats?

But away from football economics; Despite the Wasps failing to sting this time, at least they gave a honourable account of themselves and went down fighting. They applied the Head of States’ advice to give their all and they did.

At the end of the day, it was Amavubi’s loss but the country’s gain; a flawless organization and exuberant and colourful fans. Rwanda’s exit should not discourage local football fans but continue flocking the stadiums and keep the flag flying proudly.

The country’s exposure on the international stage is priceless compared with its exit in the quarter finals. Tourism got a boost and our boys got the necessary exposure and experience and they will live to fight another day.
