Dear editor,
The Regional defence seminar held under the theme: ‘Managing Defence in a Democratic Society’, that convened on October 20 at Prime Holdings, is something to be thankful for.

Being committed to fostering regional peace and security, the defence force in Rwanda is on the right track.

Seminars like these should be continually held in the Rwanda as well as the EAC region so as to establish a lasting peace that will enforce capacity building for peace and security in the EAC partner states.

Also, with the build up of confidence and security within the different states, there will never be need for violent conflict among member States.

Issues like lack of good governance and sound economic policies that bring about poor defence management will no longer be a problem.

I therefore urge all states in the EAC to take seriously their defence force and train diligent and disciplined officers who have the best interests of the people at heart. If this is done, wars and crimes committed as a result of ruling dictators will be history in Africa.
