Atraco went four points clear at the top of the league table after the match between their two title rivals APR and Rayon Sports ended in a 1-1 draw yesterday in Muhanga.

The champions beat Electrogaz 2-1 on Saturday at Camp Kigali.

Albert Nyumbayire put Rayon ahead five minutes to recess, guiding Abdul Uwimana’s pinpoint cross into Jean Claude Ndoli’s gapping net.

But the lead lasted just a minute as new signing Ndjoli Bokungu equalized for APR on long-awaited debut.

Both goals can be blamed on some slack defending on either side. Uwimana embarrassed national team teammate Patrick Mafisango on the right flank on his way to setting up the cross that resulted in Rayon’s goal.

Yet on the other side, it was indecisive clearance by Rwanda’s U-20 national team captain Aimable Rucogoza who gifted new signing Bokungu the chance for the equalizer.

For the third time in a row, the league match between the two traditional rivals ended in a draw and also extended APR unbeaten run against Rayon in the league to seven matches, stretching over four years.

The draw left APR four points off the pace in third place after the table league leaders Atraco maintained their 100 percent record with a 2-1 win over Electrogaz earlier on Saturday.

Marines went into second place; two points behind Atraco with a 2-1 home win over Kibuye.

After a goalless first half, Ugandan midfielder Joseph Kabagambe scored his second goal in as many matches for champions before Andre Lomami, who was standing for his suspended elder brother Jean, added the second.

Ex-APR and KIST striker Hamadi Luziga score the consolation for Electrogaz.

Sam Timbe’s side have now won all of their opening league matches and will be favourites to make it five when they meet Amagaju next weekend before their clash with title rivals APR on November 15.

Kiyovu registered their first point of the season with a 1-1 draw against fellow early strugglers, La Jeunesse in a match between two Kigali based teams but played in Gicumbi.

But the troubled giant slipped to bottom spot after Amagaju shocked Mukura with a 1-0 win in Huye. It was the first points for the Nyamagabe based side.
