French-American contemporary dancer, Nicola Ayoub will perform a contemporary dance show dubbed ‘Dream Life’, on Saturday at St Paul's Hall near St. Michel Church, Kiyovu.
Eight local dancers will perform alongside Ayoub who held a similar show in Bujumbura last Saturday. Speaking to The New Times on Tuesday after a rehearsal session with the dancers at Waka Fitness in Kimihurura, the dynamic dancer said that she was working with the dancers on modern dancing techniques.
"The dancers here have good energy; sometimes they just don't have good training, the correct precision of arms or alignments. So I am trying to help them find good training so that they can do any type of dance,” she said.
She added that her technique is about finding freedom of expression through precision and training.
Ayoub will stage a solo performance with percussions from seasoned singer and percussionist, Ben Ngabo, one with the eight dancers and traditional dance.
Ayoub's career in dance which she refers to as a "universal language" started in her childhood.
"I always wanted to share my joie de vivre with the whole world. Even when I was a little kid, I used to run in the street and started performing in Atlanta, Georgia, dancing for other people. My idea is to share dance with the world,” she said.
She calls on dancers to follow their dreams.
The doors to the show open at 7 pm and entrance is free. The performance is organized by the French Institute of Kigali.
