Jean de Dieu Mahoro, better known as Giovani Mahoro, a former presenter at Radio Salus was, yesterday, found dead in his room in Taba, Huye District.

He was 29 and single.

The deceased hailed from Rusizi District.

He was a programme and documentary producer.

According to Yves Rugira, former workmate and housemate of the deceased journalist, Mahoro had no known illness and had paid a visit to friends in Mbazi sector on Sunday.

Rugira said, "When I came back at night with our other housemate, we found Mahoro in his room talking on phone. Until we went to sleep at around 11pm, he was still talking on phone. We were shocked to find Mahoro dead the following day.”

He described the deceased as a ‘‘peaceful, sociable and caring person.’’

"Giovanni was a person of Mahoro (peace) as his name suggests; he easily related with others. He loved doing his work in a neat way. He was self driven. He loved people and his work,” Rugira said.

The body was taken to the University Teaching Hospital of Butare (CHUB) for post-mortem.

By press time, Eugene Hagabimana, the director of Radio Salus told The New Times they were still waiting for a member of the family of the deceased to be around before a post-mortem could be carried out.

Mahoro has been a presenter with Radio Salus since 2010. He was involved with various shows but was most popular in a show about global history, dubbed "Hambere Hanze.”

He graduated in 2012 from the National University of Rwanda’s School of Journalism and Communication.
