DR Congo continued their impressive form in the 2016 Africa Nations Championships by trouncing Angola 4-2 in the second round of matches for Group B on Thursday at Huye stadium to qualify for the quarter-finals.
The 2009 CHAN champions cruised to a 3-0 lead after 37 minutes and looked destined for a cricket score but Angola came from the break more organised and determined.
However, despite pulling two back, Congo scored a fourth goal to make it two wins out of two, following their 3-0 victory over Ethiopia on Sunday.
Florent Ibenge’s men took the lead in the 7th minute through Nelson Muganga and, ten minutes later, Elia Meshack made it 2-0.
Les Leopards continued to pile pressure on Angola in search for a third goal, and it duly arrived in the 37th minute through striker Jonathan Bolingi Mpangi.
Angola began the second half in much better fashion, seeing more of the ball and getting in forward position more regularly; however, beat DR Congo goalkeeper Ley Matampi kept them at bay.
In the 75th minute, Jancinto Muondo Dala curled the ball past Matampi for Angola’s first goal in the tournament, but six minutes later, Congo restored their 3-goal cushion through Hertier Luvumbu before defender Joel Kimwaki scored an own goal in the 83rd minute for Angola’s second.
