2011 Champions, Tunisia, were held 2-2 by debutants Guinea in a very exciting Group C opener at Kigali Regional stadium in Nyamirambo.

The game also produced the tournament’s top scorers in Ahmed Akaichi and Alseny Camara who scored two for Tunisia and Guinea respectively.

Akaichi opened the scoring in the 33rd minute after his effort earlier had hit the wood work.  Their celebrations were short lived as Camara equalized just seven minutes later.  The first half ended 1-1.

Like the first half, Tunisia begun the second half on a high note finding the back of the net after six minutes through Akaichi, for his second goal of the day.

After taking the lead, Tunisia sat back and only went forward through counter attacks. This gave Guinea the chance to pile pressure and find an equaliser.

Their efforts paid off in the 83rd minute when Camara’s close range volley went past Tunisia’s goal keeper Rami Jeridi. From then, both teams tried to get a win but there wasn’t enough time.

The Referee, Daniel Frazer Bennet, blew the final whistle after 3 additional minutes to the relief of the players but the fans at Kigali Regional stadium who enjoyed watching this game must have wanted the action to continue.

The next Group C game between Nigeria and Guinea starts at 6pm.
