Rwanda women national sitting volley team starts a one-week training camp at the National Paralympics Committee gymnasium ahead of the 2016 World Para volley Intercontinental Championships slated for March 17-23 in Hangzhou City, China.

The event will be the final opportunity for two teams (men and women) to qualify for the Rio 2016 Paralympics set for September 7-18 and also a chance for the already qualified teams to gain some last-minute match experience leading up to the Games.

Coach Peter Karreman’s side, qualified for the Rio Games last September after winning the Para volley Africa Championships held in Kigali to become the first women’s sitting volley team to represent Africa.

In Hangzhou City, the team will be seeking to gain international experience and boost player’s morale, according assistant coach Jean Marie Nsengiyumva.

"This will be our second trip overseas after a training camp in Slovenia before we head to Rio and it is a great opportunity and plat form for players to gain valuable experience from playing with world’s best teams and get familiar with playing in front big crowds,” said Nsengiyumva.

Players in camp include; Liliane Mukobwankawe, Beatha Nyinawabantu, Providence Nyirantungane, Solange Nyiraneza, Alice Musabyemariya, Carine Kwizera, Yvonne Imanishimwe, Claudine Murebwayire, Claudine Bazubagira, Anges Nyiranshimiyimana, Clementine Umutoni and Sandrine Nyirambarushimana.
