Fashion: It’s in the jeans

For most men, jeans are the most valuable part of his wardrobe. Fashions come and go, but jeans are never out of style. Usually, this is not because they are the most stylish or expensive piece of clothing worn, or even the best-looking. Instead, it’s their versatility that is important, as you can wear jeans around the house, in the workplace or on a night out.

Armstrong Ntare, a young entrepreneur, says if, for example, you only wear suits to work, your jeans might be reserved strictly for weekends, or for lounging around the house. If your work environment allows jeans, however, jeans might be everyday wear.

But whether you see yourself as a fashionistas or a fashion disaster, Abdullah Kalisa, a businessman in the Kigali’s commercial centre says men’s designer jeans were made to flatter.

"When shopping for the latest style, opt for big, bold pockets adorning slim-cut jeans to show off your vivacious body,” says Kalisa.

He says jeans add finishing touches to men’s looks. The hottest styles will make the wearer look and feel stylish, and have them walking in comfort and with confidence.

Whether it is the newest trends or the hottest in men’s designer jeans it is all about looking and feeling stylish.

The one to wear

This season, the overall look is dressy and elegant. Jeans are definitely getting leaner with a slightly higher waist than past years. It also seems that loudly faded jeans are slowly loosing ground.

Instead of shopping for big baggy jeans, Robert Habimana, the manager of Two-One Fashion boutique, Nyamirambo says trendy denim wearers are selecting pairs that flatter perfectly.

Bootleg cuts and slim straight legs in men’s designer jeans make them look slim, long-legged and just plain fashionable regardless of the size of their body.

Although not as skinny as women’s styles, men are tossing out wide legs in favor of comfortable and trendy straight leg versions.

Everyday we keep seeing some new designer jeans, says Brian Shema, 25. Bellbottomed style is pretty old but is again back in fashion.

"If you’re in the shop for a new pair of jeans, consider your style and size,” says Jimmy Mulisa, a shopassistant at Chez Michael Boutique. Adding that, "Classic straight cut styles with a little new twist never go out fashion.”

Blue jeans are the most versatile and can be worn with all types of T-shirts, or shirts. For the funky look, freaky washed out is the perfect type. Jeans make the wearer look cool and trendy for evenings. For daytime functions, pale blue jeans are simply mind-blowing.

A little extra

In the world of men’s designer jeans, today’s trends focus on the art and details of design allowing wearers to express themselves.

It’s exciting, Calvin Gisa, 23, first year student at Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) that the designer men’s jeans industry has designed unique and fashionable jeans to its consumers.

"Men’s jeans have been in desperate need of something new for decades,” says Gisa.

Jeans wearers are opting for pockets and are wearing them loud and proud. Men’s designer jeans are boasting colourful collections of crystals, coloured pewter, and bold embroidery in chic shapes. The more decorative the pockets the hotter they are.

Men’s jeans are sporting funky embroidered patterns on the pockets, across the legs, and even across the backside to emphasize the shape of the denim and heighten the slimming and lengthening effect of the pants.
