The president of Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA), Vincent Nzamwita, has said that hosting the African Nations Championship is a good test for Rwanda.

While addressing the media at Kigali Serena Hotel ahead of the CHAN tournament which kicks off today, Nzamwita said, "Hosting the second biggest football continental tournament is a major test for Rwanda.”

He added that it comes with a range of social, and economic benefits. Football is a multi-million dollar industry which does not only promote the sport but also other sectors in the country,” he noted.

Nzamwita added that, "We have reached the focal point. We are not only competing for the trophy as the hosts, but also the credit for hosting a successful tournament.”

Sixteen teams will be competing for the biennial continental tournament. Rwanda has already hosted two continental football tournaments namely; U-20 African Youth Championship in 2009 and the 2011 Africa Under-17 Championship, which qualified the Junior Wasps to the 2011 FIFA under-17 World Cup in Mexico.
