Technology: Anti-glare can save your eyes

With the increasing use of computers today, as a necessities, there is high exposure to bright light. This affects our vision thereby causing difficulties in seeing without understanding the cause. Typical symptoms of eyestrain while working on the computer include blurry vision, dry eyes, and irritation. It is therefore now understandable to note that the causes for glare as a form of light pollution or over-illumination is harmful to human health. However, the exposure to light pollution or excessive light can be prevented by the use of an anti-glare.

An anti-glare is a computer monitor screen that is treated to reduce glare from light sources screen. It cuts down on the amount of light for both bright spots and washout caused by ambient light that reflects off the display.

The reduction in light reduces symptoms of eye strain, including double vision, headaches, difficulty focusing, and the inability to perceive colors properly.

Reflected light or glare is very fatiguing to the eyes and reduces the contrast, colors and sharpness of the display. An anti-glare computer screen makes viewing a display more pleasant, reduces eyestrain, and sharpens the picture.

An anti-glare is a win-win situation for better viewing and avoiding of blurred vision at a cost of just Frw20000 around town.

However before you consider purchasing an anti-glare screen to reduce eye strain, consider that you can reduce the glare (light population) on your computer monitor by adjusting your work station.

How?

Reduce glare from your computer windows by positioning your monitor screen at a 90 degree to them.

Note: While glare is reduced if you directly face the light source (with the light source thereby behind the screen), the high contrast of light could result in eye strain.

Cover the house window with curtains or blinds. You can then open the curtains and blinds for natural lighting when the sun is no longer shining directly through the window.

Use wall paint with a non-reflective surface and avoid using bright whites and other colours that reflect high amounts of light.
