IPRC-South too good for struggling CSK

Integrated Polytechnic Regional Centre South Province (IPRC-South) humiliated former league champions Cercle Sportif de Kigali (CSK) on Saturday as the national basketball league returned from the festive break.

The Huye-based title hopefuls showed were ruthless against struggling CSK 117-39 at the latter’s home court in Rugunga to improve their win ratio to 3:1 this season.

IPRC-South dominated all four quarters 26-8, 23-7, 30-10 and 33-14, respectively.

Sanny Niyomugabo scored the game high 22 points, while Herve Ikishatse and Didier Ishimwe scored 18 points each, with skipper Bienvenue Niyonsaba and Fabrice Rukundo contributing 15 and 14 points, respectively, for Didier Bineza’s side where as Bosco Gatare scored eight points for CSK.

IPRC- South head coach Bineza told Times Sport, "Today we have put on an excellent showing, and all my players were on clinical form. This is a good New Year present to our supporters; however, we need to keep the momentum.”

Elsewhere, on Saturday, Cliff Owuor’s APR managed a narrow away 79-76 win over Rusizi, while Charles Mushumba’s University of Rwanda-College of Arts and Social Sciences (UR- CASS) overcame debutants, the national U-18 team 65-56, at UR- Huye campus gymnasium. ]

In the women’s league, defending champions APR, coached by Charles Mbazumutima defeated 2014 champions Ubumwe BBC 78-66 as on-form IPRC-South won 56-49 over Eric Dusabimana’s The Hoops Rwanda at Amahoro indoor stadium.

There were two games on Friday when (four-time) reigning champions ESPOR raised their win ratio to 4:0 with a 74-36 victory over UGB while Henry Mwinuka’s Patriots saw off IPRC-Kigali 77-57. Both games were played at Amahoro indoor stadium.
