Rally speedsters Davite Giancarlo and Costa Olivier will take their rivalry to another level today as they compete in the Rallye de L’est, the second last round on this year’s National Rally Championship.

After Rudy Cantanhede’s surprise relocation to his native Belgium, the duo is top on the list of top contenders for this race.

Costa, who had his Africa Rally Championship debut appearance in June when he took part in the KCB Safari rally, is at pains to attest that his consistent run in the championship is not by mistake.

Navigated by Jean Francois Ruhashyankiko in his Subaru Impreza, Costa will fancy a top spot finish after finishing second in last month’s Huye rally which was won by Valery Bukera.

"It is going to be a tough race but I’m prepared to battle,” Costa told Times Sport.

Other drivers in contention include Tony Saegerman, Elefter Mitraros, Johnny Murengezi, Claude Kwizera and Christakis Fitidis.

The rally that covers 230.57 km is spread over five competitive sections. The shortest section runs from Gahini to Kawangire covering 26.20km while the longest covers 45.20km (Gakoma to Kawangire).

Cantanhede won last year’s edition.
