Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia have opened talks with former Rwanda international striker Meddie Kagere over a new contract before it is too late. January 15 is the deadline day for late registration.
Kagere’s name was conspicuously missing from Gor’s squad submitted for this year’s CAF Champions League—but there is place for Rwanda international full back Abouba Sibomana and ex-Rayon Sports right-back Karim Nizigiyimana.
Gor Mahia through the club’s assistant secretary General Ronald Ngala and team manager Jolawi Obondo has moved to clarify the reason for omission of Kagere.
According Ngala, Kagere, whose contract with the side has expired and is yet to commit to a contract renewal, will be included should he agree to extend his stay at the club.
"We are still negotiating with Meddie Kagere on a possible extension... if we agree, then we shall include his name before 15th January - the deadline day for late registration of players,” he said.
Ngala said that they were still chasing two more players and should the deals go through, they would include them.
He added, "We still in the process to acquire one or two players and if we succeed, then we will just pay the late registration fee to have them in the squad.”
During his career, Kagere has played for Mbale Heroes FC, ATRACO FC, Kiyovu Sports, Mukura Victory, Police FC, Zarzis, Police FC, Rayon Sports and KF Tirana.
