The Business Development Fund (BDF), as a way of giving back to society, offered support to two vulnerable families in Nyarugenge District by refurbishing their houses.

The families of Alfred Mbogo and Therese Rukebesha usually depend on government support through Vision Umurenge Programme (VUP).

The support, worth Rwf2 million, will be used on house renovation works, including paving, roofing as well as electricity connection.

George Kagarama, the Business Development Manager at BDF, said on Wednesday that the institution is not only responsible for supporting small and medium businesses but also cares for the needy.

"Charity shows our humanity. As a development partner, our institution’s responsibility is not only to fund potential small and medium businesses but also to care for those who are needy and vulnerable,” Kagarama said.

John Rubira, the Executive Secretary of Muhima Sector, thanked BDF for the support

The beneficiaries also appreciated BDF for the support.

"I always feared my house would collapse on me at any time. But since it is renovated, I feel comfortable and safe. I appreciate the Government’s efforts to ensure vulnerable people get the basic neccessities of life,” Mbogo, 60, who is disabled, told The New Times.

A Rwf2 million charity fund is always included in BDF’s budget to support vulnerable people living in different districts across the country every year.
