IF youhave ever received a gift, you must know the value of giving. Gifts, not only bring a smile on our faces and gratitude in our hearts, but also greatly uplift someone’s’ spirit.

And again, the festive season is upon us, giving all of us reason to touch someone through gifting. It’s Christmas, the spirit of giving should be high; so let’s sacrifice part of our resources to buy a gift for a friend, spouse, family, and the unprivileged people in our communities.

As some people find it hard to figure out the suitable gift to give their loved ones this festive season, the tips below from our experts will help you choose the right item. Flora Uwase, a seasoned expert in this area, says doesn’t matter how classy, cheap, big or small the gift is. She believes the value of a gift lies in the heart of giving, noting that a gift is a priceless act of love. "When you give someone a Christmas gift, it implies how grateful you’re to have them in your life,” she says.

For Women

Regarding a better gift for girls and majority women, their fellow Graceline Abera, says the majority women would be thrilled to have their photo framed in an elegant and decorated frame as a gift. "This is because women love pictures…such a gift would rank highly among their Christmas collections,” she says.

She adds that since women have increasingly developed taste for art pieces, giving one a hand drawn picture as a gift would make an outstanding gift. Jewellery like a necklace, a watch, bracelets or ear rings, would create a life-long memories on the receiver, she adds. Other gifts for women include African traditional materials and products, including wallets, hand bags and decoration items, can do wonders for those that cherish African-oriented items. For the modern girl and woman, a fancy looking hand bang makes a great gift.

For Men

Men also appreciate a good gift as this makes them feel appreciated and loved. Kerry Ndahiro, a father of two, says most men would care for a pair of cufflinks and a nice neck tie. He advises that blue is the ideal colour for clothes, arguing that depicts a macho personality for men. A good pair of shoes can also blow him off his feet. A pair of well-fitting blue jeans, or khaki pants are also ideal gifts for men. Some will feel appreciated if you give them some fancy T-shirt or watch.

For Children

A teddy bear can do for girls, while Spiderman and other animated games, such as Zoomer Dino, will make your boy’s Christmas memorable. Since most children enjoy playing television games, PlayStation games, game boys, scrabble game board, among others, would make a good gift for them this festive season. You could also spare some time and take them out to an amusement park or games centre.

Caution

If you are going to give someone a gift, remember that good wrapping is a great ideal as it makes the gift look even fancier. Find a creative and experienced person to help you wrap your gift. Also remember some people, especially women, are cautious about colours, so wrap gifts with their favourite colours.

Jolly Berwa, an experienced gift wrapper at a city gifts shop, says wrappings add value to the gift. "People need to be cautious about how their gifts are wrapped. A wrapper boosts the interest and curiosity of the person receiving the gift. In fact, it creates the first impression. Creative wrapping is an ideal,” she says.
