Editor,
RE: "WASAC signs Rwf22bn deal to address water woes” (The New Times, December 18).
This is very welcome news indeed.
I live in Kabeza and shortages are common in the wet season and terrible in the dry season each and every year. Fortunately, I have the ability to buy as many jerry cans of water as I might need during these times, but some of my neighbours cannot, especially when the price climbs to RF300 per jerry can.
I find myself often buying water for my neighbours when they cannot afford it, but not many families have that kind of help.
Also, if you consider the number of hours wasted by people who have to stand in the queue waiting their turn to fill jerry cans at the public tanks, huge amount of people's time is being wasted, which is a loss of productivity for the economy.
It's about time WASAC takes water scarcity seriously; let’s hope the utility is going to fulfill their promise (of increasing water production from 65,000m³ per day to 120,000m³ in one year).
