The Water and Sanitation Corporation Ltd (WASAC) will this afternoon sign a contract with a private contractor, Culligan International to kick off a mega water production project to increase its production capacity.
The move is aimed at addressing the persistent water woes in Kigali and its outskirts which currently has a demand gap of about 45,000m3 a day according to the corporation.
According to a press statement, the deal is expected to increase WASAC’s production capacity from the current 65,000m3/day to 120,000m3/day and hence bridge the water demand gap for Kigali.
"With the Support from the Ministry of Infrastructure, as well as the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, WASAC is working on a plan to develop and implement projects that will ensure company efficiency and guarantee delivery of adequate and quality water services to the people of Kigali and its outskirts,” the statement reads in part.
The project, which involves the rehabilitation and upgrading of Nzove I and Nzove II water treatment plants, is expected to be completed in less than 12 months from today.
