Editor,

RE: "Grooming young girls is a noble venture” (The New Times, December 12).

The success that Rwanda is registering as a result of empowering women and, in particular, placing them in leadership positions, can only be sustained with models like SHE-CAN.

If women are to stand the test of time and contribute to strategically steer this country ahead, young women in today’s generation have to be put to test from childhood.

I have worked closely with SHE-CAN from the inception, and I believe our young women have potential to do greater things given the opportunities this country has placed in their hands.

However, women in leadership need to take on an ambitious role, each taking on one young lady to mentor and play a role of grooming them into the women the country needs.

SHE-CAN mentorship strategy provides a platform for us all to contribute and focus on developing their hidden skills, upgrading their academics and instilling in them the spirit of patriotism.

The world becomes a better place when economic growth is inclusive and women are fully involved. It is time for us all to be involved in addressing sustainably the future women leaders that Rwanda and Africa need.

I am glad to be part of this initiative and I am glad to be exercising my role as HE-FOR-SHE member.
