Saturday, 25th October 2008 all roads will lead to Jali Club, where Kigali Health Institute will hold the first ever beauty contest to crown Miss KHI.

According to Augustine Nsanzimana the head of Culture department at the institute, this means that the winner of the contest should be beautiful enough to deserve a cow.

"We also wish to use this as an opportunity to trade Rwanda’s rich culture and beauty. That is why we have come up with a unique style of doing it,” said Nsanzimana who doubles as the overseer of the event.

He revealed that the show is entirely organised and prepared by students through their Performance Promoting Group (PPG).

Jean d’Amour Mutoni, the group’s president, explains that they have tried very much to spice up the show.

"We have contacted some local artists and most of them like Tom Close have already confirmed. With the help of our excellent sponsors we hope to bring even more on board,” said Mutoni.

Amidst intense preparations, he has come out to thank Serena Hotel and all those who have given assistance to make the show a success.

"Sulfo Rwanda and some salons around town have taken care of the girls’ beauty all through and a special six months offer for the overall winner,” he said.

Mutoni, however, says that lack of enough funding may not allow them to give the best girl the winner’s prize of Frw250,000 as earlier planned, but has urged all city dwellers to find their way to the venue if they want to enjoy the weekend.

Meanwhile, there is a sigh of relief because one of the institution’s hottest girls known as Sheila Wibabara, has reportedly pulled out of the race under unclear circumstances.

"Girls participated well because all thought they stood equal chances of winning since Sheila gave way,” an apparently excited member of the organising committee who preferred anonymity said.

Wibabara rose to fame last year when she signed a contract with MTN for her picture to appear on airtime cards and she has since not looked back.

She also became a face of many other different companies around town and has at least got her fair share of eminence. She, however, dismissed the bad words going around, and attributed her step down to personal reasons.

"Apart from my own reasons, I am also a member on the organising committee. If I participated and by any chance won, some would claim I used my influence for judges to rule against the rest, hence I was left with no other option,” the stunning beauty said.
