President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni this morning officiated the opening of the new Uganda High Commission Chancery in Rwanda.

The Chancery located in Kacyiru, a Kigali suburb has been under construction since March 2013 at a cost of about Rwf 1.8 billion.

This is the first permanent Ugandan High Commission Chancery to be built by the Ugandan Government.

Museveni who is in the country for the 12^th Northern Corridor Integration Heads of State summit termed the completion and inauguration of the facility as proof of the cordial relations between Rwanda and Uganda. 

He said the move by Uganda to establish a ‘permanent home’ in Kigali was also a sign of confidence in the two countries relations’ in coming years.

Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sam Kutesa hailed the Rwandan government   for the support rendered in the process of establishing the Chancery and the warm ties that have been enjoyed over the years.

He noted the decision to have the first Ugandan-owned Chancery in Rwanda was not by accident but rather a deliberate move to strengthen ties.

The Chancery is expected to save the Ugandan Government about Rwf90 million incurred annually in rent expenses, according to the Ugandan High Commissioner to Rwanda, Richard Kabonero.
