NYAMASHEKE — Demobilised soldiers in Nyamasheke district have been urged to always work hard and to embrace government programmes in order to fight poverty.

The advice was made recently by Jean Sayinzoga, the President of Rwanda Demobilisation and Reintegration Commission (RDRC) while meeting demobilised soldiers at Kagano in Nyamasheke district.

"I call upon you as former Rwandan army men who need any development to be achieved in our nation to always work hard in order to bail yourselves out of current poverty. You need to be exemplary while working with other residents,” Sayinzoga said.

He called upon the ex-combatants to promote peace, unity and reconciliation among their fellow residents and to work with all security organs in strengthening security in the area.

He further asked them to abandon their associations and form up cooperatives which are business oriented to generate income.

The meeting was aimed at integrating the ex-combatants into the mainstream planning and support systems at the sector level.

It was attended by all the 15 vice Sector Executive Secretaries in charge of social affairs and representatives of demobilised soldiers.
