Sunday Right Guards vs Telugu Royals - 8:30am
Undefeated in two matches, Right Guards cricket club will be understandably confident heading into the UAE Exchange & Xpress Money 50-over Premier League semi-final clash against Telugu Royals on Sunday at Kicukiro cricket ground.
Right Guards finished on top of group A with 8 points after beating Kigali Cricket Club and Kerala Hunters in the preliminaries, while Telugu reached the last after beating Indorwa and drawing with Challengers to finish on six points in group B.
While Right Guards’ reliance on their batsmen is expected, the success of their e bowlers has been outstanding.
The trio of national team players; Freddy Ndayisenga, Emmanuel Mugabe and Bryson Bugingo have surpassed all expectations in the tournament, bowling with a pace and vigour.
And according to Eric Dusingizimana, the Right Guards captain, they are ready to "tear Telugu Royals apart.”
"We've have worked out how to take wickets and score runs, and we've shown that through this tournament,” said Telugu Royals captain Shiva Samba.
Former Rwanda wicket keeper / batsman Denis Mukama, who plays for Indorwa CC said, "The toss is crucial.
Once a team gets through the first 8-10 overs, it'll be a nice batting wicket with a possibility of scoring over 200 runs. I know it sounds like a cliche, but for me, runs on the board is probably the most important thing.
"Right Guards haven't clicked at the top of the order with Mugisha and Dusingizimana. If they can both get going - with what's going through the middle order - I think it'll be fireworks,” he added.
The second semi-final between Challengers and Kerala Hunters will be played next Sunday at Kicukiro ground.
