IPRC-South are plotting for a positive start when they face United Generation Basketball (UGB) in their first league game of the 2015/2016 season today at University of Rwanda College of Science and Technology court.
Fresh from winning the pre-season tournament last Sunday, Didier Bineza’s youthful IPRC-South, who finished fifth last season on their league debut, have set sights on a higher finish this time round.
The Huye-based Integrated Polytechnic Regional Center defeated UGB 72-51 in group stages on the way to dethroning Jean Bahufite’s Espoir as pre-season tournament champions.
"Winning the opening game would be a good start, so we will do everything possible to make it happen. The confidence is high especially after winning the pre-season tournament,” said IPRC-South captain Bienvenu Niyonsaba.
Elsewhere today, Kicukiro-based IPRC-Kigali entertains Rusizi Basketball Club at Amahoro indoor stadium and coach Albert Buhake has challenged his men to show their intent for the season against the South-Western-based club.
On Saturday, four-time reigning champions Espoir started their title defense on a positive note by defeating Charles Mushumba's University of Rwanda College of Arts and Social Sciences (UR-CASS) 89-67 at Amahoro indoor stadium.
Meanwhile, the game between former champions APR and Cercle Sportif de Kigali (CSK) did not take place after the later failed show up at the venue.
