Rwanda Volleyball Federation (FRVB) has confirmed Rwanda’s participation at this year’s Castle Beach Volleyball tournament slated for December 4-6 in Kampala, Uganda.
The development was confirmed to Times Sport on Thursday by FRVB technical director, Christian Hatungimana.
The country will be represented by four teams, two in each gender. Apart from targeting top prize at the three-day show, the tournament will also serve as part of preparations ahead of the final round of Olympic Games qualifiers scheduled for early 2016.
"We found this tournament very important for our teams; it’s a good training platform. Players will start residential camp training on November 30 in Rubavu district, a week before the tournament in Kampala,” Hatungimana confirmed.
He also insisted that,” Our beach volleyballers have shown potential on regional and continental stage, we will provide whatever support necessary (but affordable) to them for a ticket to Olympic Games finals in Brazil.”
Two male teams include INATEK’s duo of Olivier Ntagengwa and Patrick Kavalo as Team A with Team B comprising of Pierre Marshal Kwizera paired up with Flavien Ndamukunda.
The women’s teams are made up of Denise Mutatsimpundi alongside Charlotte Nzayisenga (Team A) with Seraphine Mukantambara partnering with Judith Hakizimana in Team B.
Apart from Rwanda and hosts Uganda, other countries expected to take part include Tanzania and Burundi, although organisers expected more countries to register.
The four Rwandan teams are fresh from competing in the second round of qualifiers of the 2016 Olympic Games in Egypt earlier this month, where Rwanda finished second behind Angola and Egypt in the men and women categories respectively.
