No Rwandan peacekeepers serving with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) were killed on 23 November 2015 as reported by Bloomberg news and other media outlets.

This was announced in a statement by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) spokesperson, Brig Gen Joseph Nzabamwita.

"The facts are that a wounded peacekeeper from a friendly Troop Contributing Country serving in UNMISS was brought to The Rwandan Contingent Medical Clinic in Juba for treatment on Monday 23 November 2015. Unfortunately the peacekeeper died of the gunshot wounds he sustained in an incident that did not involve Rwandans”, clarified Nzabamwita

Brig Gen Nzamwita went on to say that no Rwandan peacekeeper are being questioned about the incident.

Francis Okech reported for Bloomberg News on 23 November 2015 that, "A United Nations peacekeeper in South Sudan was shot dead at the mission’s base in the capital, Juba, with one of his colleagues being investigated over the incident, a spokeswoman said”.

 The article further stated that "Medics at the base’s clinic declared the Rwandan national dead of gunshot wounds on Monday morning, the UN mission’s acting spokeswoman, Shantal Persaud, said by phone from the city. A Rwandan peacekeeper is being questioned, she said”.  

Rwanda has requested UNMISS to correct the wrong information provided to the media.
