StarTimes, Rayon Sports organise Christmas Cup

Rayon Sports Football Club, in conjunction with StarTimes, have organised the Christmas Cup which will run from November 25 to December 4 at Kicukiro and Mumena respectively.

Rayon Sports Football Club, in conjunction with StarTimes, have organised the Christmas Cup which will run from November 25 to December 4 at Kicukiro and Mumena respectively.

The competition will attract eight teams. Group A has, Rayon Sports, SC Kiyovu, Gicumbi FC and SC Villa (Uganda), while Group B includes AS Kigali, Mukura VC, Police FC and Bukavu Dawa (RDC)

StarTimes Group Company have signed a three-year deal with Rayon Sports worth US$90,000 (about Rfw67, 500,000m) annually.

The first match will be between Mukura and Police FC at Kicukiro stadium at 1pm which will be followed by the Rayon Sports vs Gicumbi FC clash at 3pm at the same venue, while AS Kigali will be up against Bukavu Dawa at Mumena stadium in Nyamirambo.

 "We have entered into a partnership with StarTimes to organise a Christmas Cup every year — we signed an initial three-year contract, which is renewable if case both parties are still interested.

"This will be the first and we believe the tournament will attract many football lovers to come and enjoy during the festive period,” said Rayon Sports secretary general, Olivier Gakwaya.

All local teams participating in the 10-day tournament will get Rwf600, 000 each for preparations, while the two visiting teams, Sports Club Villa and Bukavu Dawa will get US$2000, about Rwf1.5m.

Each of the four semifinalists will receive Rwf600,000. The champions will walk away with Rwf5m besides the trophy, while losing finalists will get Rwf2.5 with the team that finishes third taking home Rfw1.5m.

The best referee of the tournament will receive Rwf300, 000, while the best coach and best player will each get Rwf250.000.
