Rwandans suffer early exit in ITF EA Junior circuit, KEN 1

Rwanda national junior tennis team of six players (three boys and three girls), currently competing in the ITF/ East African Junior circuits for players aged 18 & under in Nairobi, suffered an early exit in the first leg (KEN1) of the three-week tournament.

Rwanda national junior tennis team of six players (three boys and three girls), currently competing in the ITF/ East African Junior circuits for players aged 18 & under in Nairobi, suffered an early exit in the first leg (KEN1) of the three-week tournament.

In the boys’ singles, Rwanda’s best hope Ernest Habiyambere could only reach the quarterfinals before losing to Kenyan, Kevin Cheruiyot 6-4, 6-2.

His compatriot Etienne Niyigena was eliminated in the second round by Angola’s Andre Fernando 6-4, 7-5 where as Fabrice Tuyishime lost to Kenya’s Olivier Kigotho in the first round, 7-6, 6-4.

In mixed doubles, Tuyishime paired with Tanzania’s Emmanuel Mallya to reach the semi-finals but lost Egypt’s pair of Karim Abdel Raouf and Sharif Makhlouf 6-4, 0-6, 10-7.

Makhlouf also claimed the boys’ singles title after overwhelming Great Britain’s Remus Cope 6-3, 6-3 in the final on Saturday.

In the girls’ singles, Rwanda’s trio exited the tournament in the first round. Evelyn Kwizera fell to Aaliya Ebrahim from India 6-3, 6-0, while Chantal Mutuyimana was defeated by Ireland’s Helia Ghofrani 6-0,6-1 with Olive Tuyisenge losing 6-2, 6-0 to Chloe Njuguna of Great Britain.

Farah Yasser Abd El Wahab and Hala Fouad set an all-Egyptian final in this singles category with the latter claiming the title 6-3, 6-3. The second leg (KEN 2) is scheduled to start on Monday at the Nairobi Tennis Club.
