The 9th edition of the national beach handball tournament starts on Saturday in Rubavu district, at the shores of Lake Kivu with a total of over 20 teams expected to compete in the annual event from November 21-22.
The Rwanda Handball Federation secretary general, Jean Paul Ngarambe said everything is ready for the two-day tournament that will comprise different categories namely; seniors (above 20 years), Juniors (U-19), cadet (U-15) in both gender as well as the veterans.
"Everything is set for the tournament and we expect a remarkable event due to the high turn up,” said Ngarambe.
The Sulfo Rwanda-sponsored tournament is open to all handball clubs in the country. This year’s event has attracted 25 teams, the majority from Rubavu district and three league sides including defending champions Police plus Ecole Scondaire Kigoma and Nyakabanda.
The tournament comes two weeks before Rwanda hosts the 27th edition of the East and Central Africa Handball Federation Senior Club Championship slated for December 6-12.
The event attracts the top clubs from Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, DR Congo and South Sudan in both men and women’s categories.
