WorldRemit is an international mobile platform that allows people to send and receive money via mobile phones in more than 125 countries. Commenting on the partnership, Tongai Maramba, the Tigo CEO, said the deal will help reduce the cost of transactions, noting that it will now be easy for Rwandans abroad to send money home in the most convenient and secure way – from a smartphone to a Tigo Cash mobile wallet.
Alix Murphy, a senior mobile analyst at WorldRemit, said the partnership will boost competiveness in mobile mover transfer services. Tigo Cash also offers clients other services, including merchant payment, payment of utility bills, TV subscription charges and airtime recharge.
