Rwanda’s renowned golfer Emmanuel Ruterana is set to top the billing with a host of professional golfers from the region at this year’s Mützig Rwanda Open slated for early November at Kigali Golf Club.
According to Deo Akope, the captain of the Uganda Professional Golfers Association (UPGA), about 13 Ugandan professionals are expected to add an international flavour to the event which will be played over four days at the Par 72 course.
Last year, Ruterana (26) won the tournament to become the first golfer to win a professional competition in Rwanda after beating off stiff challenges from Akope and Kenya’s Richard Ainley.
However, the BCR sponsored golfer who is struggling for form knows that it will be much tougher this year.
Akope, fresh off a strong performance in the Uganda Open poses the biggest threat as he looks to improve on last year’s second runner-up finish.
Rwanda’s professional rookie Jean Baptist Hakizimana is also in the line-up for the tournament whose prize money is yet to be confirmed.
"This is going to be a thrill for me. I look forward to it and hope I can make my presence felt,” he said.
