Dear editor,

Commonly, a cabinet shuffle refers to certain ministers being shifted from one portfolio to another.

Cabinet reshuffles happen periodically as moving ministers is often necessary to replace ministers that have resigned due to various reasons or retired, or energising other ministries by the noted specialised skills that a nominee minister has.

However, cabinet reshuffle could also be done for other reasons. It could be done to give others to try to bring in new ideas.

It could also be done to do away with non-performing and corrupt officials. So, reshuffle is just a healthy exercise that should be done periodically.

We could also have reshuffles in other public offices so that they get afresh breath of life. So perhaps all supervisors could have the mandate to reshuffle, but not sack, their employees for efficiency.
