The 2016 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) draws will be held today at the Kigali Serena Hotel.
Vincent Nzamwita, Chairman of the Rwanda CHAN 2016 Local Organising Committee (LOC), told Sunday Times that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) will be represented by Vice President Almamy Kabele.
"CAF President Issa Hayatou, who is also FIFA interim president, had surgery recently, so he won’t be around for the ceremony but his Vice President, top CAF officials and representatives of the participating teams are here,” Nzamwita said yesterday.
Sixteen teams including hosts Rwanda will take part in the three-week tournament that will run from January 16 to February 7.
The teams are Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Morocco, Tunisia, Mali, Guinea, Niger, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon, DR Congo, Zambia, Angola and Zimbabwe.
The matches will be played in four stadiums: Rubavu Stadium, Huye, Amahoro Stadium and Stade de Kigali.
Both defending champions Libya and last year’s runners-up Ghana failed to qualify for the 2016 CHAN.
CHAN is a biannual tournament which features national teams made up exclusively of locally based players, who were active in their national championships.
